DAY 1: Arrive in Guatemala. Reception in the airport. Transport to the colonial city of Antigua Guatemala (1 hour). Lodging in Hotel Uxlabil, a movie setting hotel, where they are filmed “Looking for Palladin” in 2006. Walking distance from the center of the city. Bird watching. Welcome dinner.

DAY 2: After a typical Guatemalan breakfast, a guided tour of the city of Antigua. Visit the colonial churches destroyed in the earthquakes of 1773 (San Francisco, Santa Clara, Capuchinas) and the cathedral, as well as the Museums of the Hotel Casa Santo Domingo. Free evening to walk around the city. Dinner in a restaurant near the hotel.

DAY 3: Early departure form the hotel, transport in minibus to the base of Volcan Pacaya; ascent on foot. Those who prefer not to go to the volcano will visit a macadamia plantation. After lunch travel to Lake Atitlan in minibus (2 hours); arrive in Panajachel. Boat trip (30 minutes). Arrive in San Juan La Laguna. Lodging in Eco Hotel Uxlabil. Typical Guatemalan dinner.

DAY 4: After breakfast, walking around the town of San Juan La Laguna, a Maya Tzutuhil community: church, families and textile trading centers, houses and galleries of primitive painters. Free afternoon for optional activities: swimming, fishing, kayaking, sauna, Jacuzzi, relaxing massage (Day 4 or 5), photography, birdwatching, contemplating the landscape. Dinner with elements full of tradition: tejido maya, painting, marimba music and dancing. Tourist participate.

DAY 5: Breakfast followed by boat trip to Santiago Atitlan; site of artisans of wood and textiles; trip to the church, market, ceremonial center, artisan markets. Return on boat to the foot of the volcano San Pedro. Free afternoon for sports activities (volleyball, badminton, swimming, kayaking).

DAY 6: After breakfast, depart in minibus to Nahuala, kiche Mayan artisan center; one hour later arrive in San Francisco El Alto, the largest popular market in Central America. Departure to temples and altars of great religions and artistic value in San Cristobal Totonicapan and San Andres Xecul. Visit to artisan galleries of colonial ceramics. Transport to Quetzaltenango (knows as Xela); check in to hotel. Afternoon walking in the park and cathedral.

DAY 7: After breakfast, travel in minibus to the community of Almolonga, a vegetable production center, and hot springs produced by a volcano. Visit to a catholic church and several evangelical churches. Brief return descent through Zunil, a typical Quiché Mayan community. Descent toward the south coast through coffee, rubber and sugar cane plantations. Stop at La Democracia to visit the museum of Olmec artifacts. Arrival in Antigua and check in at hotel Uxlabil.

DAY 8: Departure to the airport. If the hour of departure permits, visit the Palacio Nacional and Museum Popol Vuh to view colonial art works. Drop off at the National Airport.


NOTES: If the group is interested, it is possible to visit Chichicastenango and its market (Thursdays and Sundays), which would require a change to the proposed plan or a substitution of selected visits.
Tourists will receive personalized service in small groups.
Groups may extend their stay to visit Tikal, Copan, Quetzaltenango or Cobán (2-3 day each, with additional cost).
It is possible to organize special activities, such as a Mayan ceremony or hike during the stay in San Juan la Laguna.
