Welcome to this ecological hotel located to the banks of San Juan La Laguna, at the same time to the shore of the Lake of Atitlán, a beautiful and deep lake. We hope your staying make him forget about time, stress, the horns of automobiles, television and the news that cause tension.

Here you will feel synchronized with diverse expressions of the nature. It is probable that at dawn you will feel and see the sunbeams descending progressively from the Hill The Crystalline toward the waters of Lake Atitlán.

And while that happens the song of the birds will create a sound concert of natural life. If you observe with attention the nature of this place, you will appreciate that there are lots of small lizards of different colors; some turquoise colors are worthy of a picture. The butterflies of different colors and the colibríes that are flying among flowers of sweet honey are also abundant. At night the song of frogs will sweeten your hearings.

It is probable that it has never been in a lake that has a connection point between the earth and the water, like the case of the tular of this bay. The Tul is a plant with several virtues and powers; it absorbs the chemical residuals coming from manure used in the surrounding cultivations. It also generates an micro-ambient that serves as protection for various species, the most remarkable of these species has been the Duck Poc, which are only very few ones left. During five months from November to March, this tular harbors at least a thousand of migratory ducks (gallaretas) that come from the coast east of Canada and United States.

The Lake of Atitlán is getting off level. Since this project began in 1999 we have taken registrations of it ascends in the wintertime and how much the level of the water lowers in the summer. On the average, per year, it descends vertical 30 on-line centimeters. That represents thousands of cubic meters. The descent was abrupt in the year 1977 (one year after the earthquake) when it lowered between 10 and 12 meters in a single year. Ask to any employee in the hotel where the level was in that year, where was the shore from which the abundant fish were fished.

The stone is the material more intensely used in Uxlabil. It comes from the surface and the underground. The difference is that the ones we have used here are here thanks to the effort of engravers or stonemasons that have worked the stone with master and lovely thing. Observe fine carved in the walls of the rooms and rustic details in the exterior of the restaurant. The two arenas in a plaza form and ceremonial center are there to serve you as informal center of meetings.

San Juan La Laguna's community harbors us with reciprocal sympathy. In this village you can walk and to explore with all tranquility and safety. We recommend visiting houses and shops that are production centers and sales of crafts, particularly textiles. You will be able to acquire products so varied like robes, haversacks, cloths, hammocks and more.

Some weavers are restarting the elaboration of textile by means of an ancestral technique, the colored of cotton by means of the use of natural tints coming from trees like the cinnamon, achiote, ilamo; or plants like the sacatinta and the carrot.

Some of their inhabitants still conserve the habit of fishing in the lake. Although the production of fish has diminished significantly, some sanjuaneros still go fishing using the traditional cayuco. The stain of white pieces you can see in the whole bay are "bollas" made of plastic recipients that are used by the fishermen to tie their cayucos, other wise the wind would take them way toward the bank in few minutes.

The bait for fishing comes from alambrillos, some insects that live hidden inside moss that you can appreciate about 200 meters in front of the dock of the hotel. Of course, if you wish to go fishing, we know of another alternative, request to some of our collaborators to help you with that. You can also fish with harpoon, so you don't waste your shots hunting very small fish. If you know how to take out crabs you can also make it.

But if you don't want to carry out any physical activity in the lake, simply go to the dock to enjoy the landscape. You will see that it is the only non-right dock in Atitlán. It has been built in such a way and in elevation for not interfering with the natural life and the growth of the Tul.

In the kitchen you will find two ladies of the community, Petrona and Juana who administer this part of the hotel and they receive 85% of the utilities. Our specialties in such a sense are the plates elaborated with the help of local recipes, including the fish. In this place you can express your tastes and preferences, which will be personally assisted. At night we recommend you a mint-tea or a tea made of orange leaves. You will sleep comfortably, although the first day you arrive, you are still full with concerns.

But mainly we recommend you to walk and to explore with all freedom, although being careful and observing the paths. There are miradors (viewpoints) and places to enjoy of a great variety; explore our vegetable and medicinal plantations; use the sauna or temascal and the Jacuzzi, horseback riding, swim or use the canoe and the cayuco. ENJOY this place as much as you like.
